Opportunities for High Potential and Gifted Students

The Northern Beaches Secondary College (NBSC) supports every student to achieve their educational potential, through talent development opportunities and differentiated teaching and learning practices to ensure their specific learning and wellbeing needs are met.

Extension groupings (classes) offer the opportunity for like-minded, like-ability students to work together on challenging learning or skills development that may not be offered elsewhere. A range of extension and enrichment programs for Year 7 students who reside within a schools local drawing area and are identified as high potential, gifted and highly gifted students are offered at three campuses:

o   NBSC Balgowlah Boys Campus

o   NBSC Cromer Campus

o   NBSC Mackellar Girls Campus

o   NBSC Manly Campus - a selective high school with a separate application process.

Enrichment programs are important components of talent development for high potential and gifted students. These programs increase the breadth and challenge of learning in areas such as student leadership programs, the performing arts initiatives (dance and music), school sport teams and coaching programs, subject-based extension, enrichment and extra curricula programs.

NBSC Year 7 2021 talented and gifted extension programs are offered by each campus for their in-area students. Enrolment is subject to the child’s eligibility to attend the school and the school can accommodate the child.

To apply for a position in one of the College’s extension programs, please complete an application form for the program and Campus your child/dependant is eligible to attend.

You are able to check your child’s eligibility to attend the campus by logging onto:

NOTE: As a selective high school, NBSC Manly Campus has a separate application form and process. Contact your primary school or the NSW High Performance Unit for further details. The next Selective High School Test is scheduled for Thursday 12 March 2020.
